Maries County is part of the Regional Child Support Unit hosted by the Cole County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. This unit was formed in 1993 to serve the child support needs of Cole, Gasconade, Maries and Osage counties. A full-time assistant prosecuting attorney, along with four full-time administrative assistants staff the Unit. The attorney and staff work closely with custodial parents, non-custodial parents, employers, Missouri Probation and Parole, and the court system.
What the Child Support Unit does:
Paternity and support establishment: If the Division of Child Support Enforcement is unable to establish paternity and/or a support order through the administrative process, the unit will establish a judicial order.
Support enforcement: Through civil contempt orders and criminal non-support charges, the unit strives to collect child support for children in four counties. Referrals are received from Family Support Division (FSD) when they are not able to collect support; the unit cannot work on a case without a FSD referral. In conjunction with the courts, FSD, and Probation and Parole, cases are closely monitored, wage withholdings are issued, driver’s licenses are suspended, and liens are placed on real estate, probate cases, worker’s compensation claims, and personal injury suits.
How cases are received:
Cases are referred to the Regional Child support Unit by FSD when FSD determines that a Prosecuting Attorney Referral is needed. FSD has established certain measures and policies that must be exhausted before a referral is made. Before the unit can handle a child support case, it must be referred by FSD. The Family Support Division office for Maries County is Rolla FSD, 111 Kingshighway, Suite D, Rolla, MO 65401-2922, telephone (573) 368-2250.
