Terry Daley Schwartze was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from O’Hara High School in 1971, received her undergraduate degree in political science from Central Missouri State University, now UCM, in Warrensburg in 1974, and graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia Law School in 1977.
Schwartze was an assistant Public Defender in Rolla after law school, then the first female Public Defender in the state of Missouri in 1980. She set up the first Meramec Area Legal Aid Corporation Office as its Executive Director and provided legal services and administration for legal cases for low-income persons in 12 counties in southeast central Missouri. She was the Executive Director for Meramec Legal Aid, and after a merger, Deputy Director for Legal Services of Southern Missouri for a total of 18 years.
The practice of law has provided Schwartze with experience in felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, including murder prosecutions, family law, landlord-tenant law, public benefits, consumer law and probate law.
Schwartze is serving her 9th year as elected Prosecuting Attorney for Maries County. She has served on the Maries R-1 School Board, and is currently a board member of the Vienna Community Development Corporation and the Missouri Ozarks Community Action Agency. Schwartze is secretary of the Vienna Lions Club.
